6TH AMENDMENT(right- fair & Speedy trial)By Alma Preciado

The right to a fair and speedy trial is one that many enjoy. You have the right of confrontation and you have the right to a trial by jury etc. And our favorite, the right to remain silent as long as we don't lie. Our country's justice system is one of the ones that runs the most smoothly, still with the most complications. The public has the right of a private or public trial. You have the right to know what it is you did wrong and you can actually speak for yourself. You don't have to have a stuffy lawyer behind you all the time (though it is helpful...). You also have the right to a speedy trial, which is to say once you're declared guilty or not it's over. The trail isn't going to last years once it begins unless you want it to.

At school all of our constitutional rights are mixed and messed up.  It's first and foremost to keep us safe. Once we do something wrong, we have no right to keep quiet. We can't have a trial by jury in the principle's office. We can't confront the teachers and other students, we might be able to get a few witnesses in but the only one who asks questions is the judge (teacher). No lawyers who would probably make a trouble maker's permanent a bit more clean and we can't pick whether or not our little trial is public or not.

If a student actually breaks a law in school, our constitutional rights kick in. Still, in school  they make sure to give us the fairest trial we can. The outcome is still kind of marked beforehand, though. A trouble makers who suddenly claims to be innocent is not going to be believed easily. They'll have to prove their case. That's the beauty of this system. It might be preparing them for later on experiences. School isn't the best place to hold a trial because the only judges have taught you and come to know you all year. They might have even formed unwanted grudges. Even though they say justice is blind, it's not dumb. This about covers your 6th amendment rights, hopefully, you won't need this!
